Atlético Madrid Sink Valladolid 4-2 in Fiery Clash to Sustain La Liga Surge

At the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, Atletico Madrid defeated Real Valladolid 4-2 in a thrilling match that was part of the 31st round of La Liga. Drama was abundant in the game, as three penalties and a series of momentum shifts made for an exciting and wild evening.

Following a contentious period, Valladolid took the lead in the 21st minute when Mamadou Sylla coolly dispatched his effort to give the visitors the early advantage after Clément Lenglet was given a penalty for a handball inside the box. However, Atlético quickly changed the course of events. Julián Álvarez scored a penalty of his own four minutes later, sending André Ferreira reeling and tying the score with a decisive accuracy.

"These are three important points," Atletico striker Alvarez told DAZN. "We have to keep going. Think about (Saturday's game at) Las Palmas, rest and focus. That's all.

"I had a few other chances for a hat-trick but the important thing is that we were able to win. At some point it got complicated, but we pulled it off."

Atlético's third penalty of the evening gave the game yet another dramatic twist. With ice in his veins, Julián Álvarez onto the field again and scored his second goal of the game, decisively regaining Atletico's lead.

The hosts weren't finished as the clock approached the end. Alexander Sørloth delivered the game-ending punch in the 80th minute, finishing comfortably to make it 4-2 and virtually guarantee Diego Simeone's team three points.

"We competed well. We knew we were going to suffer. It's a pity they came back," Valladolid's Sanchez said.

"We have to keep going and continue in this vein. Leave the crest where it deserves to be. We have to take it one game at a time. Fight until the end ..."

Henrique hauled down Marcos Llorente inside the box, and Julián Álvarez comfortably buried his second penalty of the evening as Atlético roared back into the lead in the 71st minute. Eight minutes later, the Argentine attacker, full of confidence, came dangerously close to scoring his hat-trick, but André Ferreira skillfully stopped his low-driven attempt after scurrying down to make the save.
