Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently revealed the details of Shohei Ohtani's return to pitching after his second right elbow surgery. Ohtani, who has been recovering from the procedure, is set to take the mound for the first time in a Dodgers uniform during their matchup against the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium.
“I’m filled with excitement,” Roberts said during the press conference. “Everyone has been waiting to see a two-way player like him in action. He’s fully prepared to pitch in a major league game, and the power and feeling are there. We’re unsure about how many innings he’ll pitch, but this moment has been eagerly anticipated by the team, fans, and the media.”
Roberts also revealed that Ohtani personally requested to pitch against the Padres, the Dodgers’ division rivals, highlighting his competitive nature. "For him to want his first start against the Padres speaks volumes about his fighting spirit,” Roberts added.
In another significant decision, Ohtani remains in his familiar leadoff position in the lineup. Roberts shared that the team had discussed moving him lower in the batting order, but Ohtani insisted on staying at the top. “We talked about the possibility of moving him down, but he wanted to stick with the leadoff spot. That’s what he preferred,” said Roberts.
