East Defends Home Turf, West Kicks Off with Fireworks and a Shock Upset

The 2025 NBA Playoffs tipped off in dramatic fashion as fans witnessed dominant performances, tight contests, and a few surprises in the first round of Game 1s. Here's a breakdown of all the action from both conferences:

(1) Cleveland Cavaliers 121, (10) Miami Heat 100

Donovan Mitchell keeps getting better when the playoffs are on the horizon. The Cavaliers star tied Michael Jordan's all-time NBA record with a 30-point performance, his sixth consecutive 30-point playoff opener. Ty Jerome, who had a stellar postseason debut with 28 points and three assists, provided him some assistance. Cleveland was impressive on both ends, stifling Miami's offense and securing a 1-0 series lead.

(2) Boston Celtics 103, (7) Orlando Magic 86

The Celtics relied on bench star Payton Pritchard, who scored 19 points and steadyed Boston's offense when things became choppy, despite their headliners having a difficult shooting night. The Celtics' defense kept Orlando to less than 90 points, demonstrating their depth and discipline early in the series, despite Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown scoring just 31 points between them.

(1) Oklahoma City Thunder 131, (8) Memphis Grizzlies 80

The Thunder spoke something. With a 51-point victory over Memphis, OKC tied for the fifth-largest margin in NBA playoff history. With 21 points, Aaron Wiggins led a balanced scoring effort, followed by 20 points from Jalen Williams. Before Game 2, the Grizzlies needed a total overhaul because they had no solutions.

(2) Houston Rockets 94, (7) Golden State Warriors 105

The first major upset of the playoffs came courtesy of the experienced Warriors, who stole Game 1 on the road. Stephen Curry was clutch as ever, leading the charge with timely threes and orchestrating the offense, while Draymond Green and Klay Thompson made critical plays on both ends. Houston’s young core looked rattled at times, and they'll need to regroup fast.

Teams that fell behind early are expected to make changes and provide responses as Game 2 for all matches continues over the next two days. The intensity is already really high as the playoffs get closer.

As the 2025 NBA Playoffs progress, stay tuned for daily updates and in-depth analysis.
