Iconic "Doge" Meme Dog Kabosu Passes Away at 18

Internet is grieving the loss of a great legend; Kabosu, the Shiba Inu that became the face of the “Doge” meme. After making people from around the world fall in love with her enthusiastic look and her position in front of the camera, Kabosu went to heaven on May 24, 2023, at the age of 18.

Kabosu’s road to becoming an internet meme started in 2010 when one of her pictures showing her with her paws crossed and a mischievous grin on her face became popular on Reddit and Tumblr. That cute piece of Shiba Inu dog became the source of one of the most recognizable Internet memes of the last decade.

It was during 2013 when the meme called “Doge” started trending with phrases like “Wow. So much. There they said ‘so scare’ and ‘what r u doing?’ in Comic Sans font and the popularity of Kabosu rose to the roof. She took up the role of being the mascot for the digital currency known as Dogecoin and even adorned the sleeve of Watford Football Club.

Living up to her influence on culture, a digital token based on the ‘Doge’ meme was recently sold at $4 million in 2021.

It is sad that Kabosu is no longer physically present with us, but her spirit, her symbol of happiness, and internet meme will forever remain immortal. The lady’s smile and her striking pose will be forever engraved in the minds of millions and will be a constant reminder that a single photograph can enchant the entire world.
