Oklahoma City Thunder Crowned Champions After Game 7 Victory; Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Shines, Haliburton Injured

The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Indiana Pacers 103-91 in Game 7 to win their first championship as an Oklahoma-based team, capping up an incredible NBA Finals. The victory is a defining moment for a youthful, dynamic squad that dominated the season and delivered when it counted most.

Superstar guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was in the lead, scoring 29 points and dishing out 12 assists in yet another outstanding effort. In addition to winning MVP for the regular season, his steady play throughout the series earned him the Finals MVP award, solidifying his status as one of the best in the league. SGA's leadership on both sides of the court was crucial to the Thunder's championship run, and he became the first player since Stephen Curry in 2015 to win both awards in the same season.

However, there were heartbreaks along the evening. Tyrese Haliburton, the Pacers' offensive star and All-Star point guard, appeared to have suffered a catastrophic Achilles injury just minutes into the first quarter. Haliburton, who had been playing through a persistent calf injury, got out to a fast start, making three of his first four long-range attempts, but his night was cut short when he passed out in obvious discomfort. The crowd was taken aback, and the game's emotional tone changed. With their leader out, Indiana found it difficult to stay up.

Despite being behind by one at the half, Oklahoma City rallied in the second half thanks to tenacious defense and crucial plays from veteran Alex Caruso, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren. The Thunder dominated the tempo and stopped Indiana's backup scorers in the closing minutes, outworking the Pacers. As the Pacers grew weary and OKC's depth took over, the game slipped away from them.

The win completes an incredible season for the Thunder, who fulfilled the promise that had been growing under general manager Sam Presti's long-term vision and finished with a franchise-best 68–14 regular season record. The young core, led by SGA, Holmgren, and Williams, showed its potential and returned to Oklahoma City with a much-needed championship.

In addition to the scoreboard, the uncertainty surrounding Haliburton's health and what might have been made the loss for Indiana a tough pill to chew. Their unlikely run to the Finals is still a highlight of the franchise's history, though.

In addition to the Thunder's ascent to prominence, the 2025 NBA Finals will be remembered for a night that, in just 48 minutes, demonstrated both the joy of victory and the anguish of defeat.
