Seiya Suzuki delivered another standout performance in the Chicago Cubs' game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cubs' outfielder launched a three-run home run in the 3rd inning, bringing his total for the season to 21 home runs. This tied Suzuki with the record for the most home runs by a Japanese right-handed batter.
Suzuki's big hit came after Tucker's timely hit had tied the game. With one out and runners on first and third, Suzuki swung hard at a sinker from Cardinals’ starter Magribi. The resulting line drive, traveling at 110.2 mph (177 km/h) and a launch angle of 19 degrees, soared 404 feet (123 meters) to land in the left-center bullpen for a go-ahead three-run blast.
Not content with just the home run, Suzuki added two more hits to his stat line, including infield singles to third base and shortstop. This gave him three hits on the day, marking his seventh three-hit game of the season since May 25.
Despite Suzuki’s excellent performance, the Cubs were unable to secure a win. Starter Taillon had a rough outing, allowing eight earned runs, and the Cubs lost by a single run. The defeat left the Cubs with a slim 1.5-game lead over the second-place Cardinals in the standings.
While the Cubs' defeat was disappointing, Suzuki’s efforts continued to shine as one of the league's brightest stars. His 21st home run of the season helped him maintain his place among the top hitters in the National League, and with 67 RBIs, he is currently tied for the league lead in that category.
