Trevor Bauer, the 2020 National League Cy Young Award winner, is set to return to the Yokohama DeNA BayStars for the 2025 Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) season. The 34-year-old right-hander signed a one-year deal worth up to $6 million, including performance incentives, the team announced on Monday.

Bauer previously played for the BayStars in 2023, where he posted an impressive 10-4 record with a 2.76 ERA in 19 games. After leaving Japan to pursue a Major League Baseball comeback, he spent the 2024 season dominating in the Mexican Baseball League with the Diablos Rojos, earning Pitcher of the Year honors with a perfect 10-0 record.

The BayStars, who won the Japan Series in 2023 after finishing third in the Central League, are eager to build on their recent success. “He’s a big piece on the team,” said manager Daisuke Miura. “I expect him to be in the starting rotation throughout the season.”

Bauer’s MLB career includes a solid 83-69 record and a 3.79 ERA over 222 games with teams such as the Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, and Los Angeles Dodgers. However, his time in the MLB ended controversially following a record 194-game suspension for violating the league’s domestic violence and sexual assault policy.
